{ music monday } make you feel my love

Monday, May 2, 2011

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Adele. I think that she not only has a beautiful voice, but a beautiful heart as well. I remember her first song that I heard, Hometown Glory and how it made me homesick every time. Here's another song of hers that is a bit old, but still one that I really enjoy. Toned-down and stripped, we can appreciate her vocals and her song writting in its fullest.

You can feel the heartfelt emotion in this song that transcends distance and relationship, it could be for a lover or a dear friend. Accompanied with minimal piano notes, this song is a perfect night lullaby. Heart-breaking yet hopeful, it's rare these days to find a song so raw and pure.

When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love

music monday: like a star

This song might be a bit of an oldie but there's just something so dear about it that makes it timeless and always so poignant to me. I love Corinne Bailey Rae and this is my favorite song of hers, it comes to me on cold nights when it's raining (which we've been having a lot here in France as of late) and of course in the wake of an argument between me and my loved ones.

The lyrics resonate so deep as she writes of how love can be passionate and heart-breaking at the same time, yet will always find a way to shine on. I admire beautiful Corinne's talent and strength especially after all she's been through and I believe that she'll continue to write lovely, sincere songs from the heart.

You've got this look I can't describe,
You make me feel like I'm alive,
When everything else is au fait,
Without a doubt you're on my side,
Heaven has been away too long,
Can't find the words to write this song,
Oh, your love...

music monday: almost lover

Monday, November 29, 2010

I've decided to re-share this 'music monday' in hopes of introducing more of you to one of my favorite artists, the lovely Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy. She has the most angelic red hair paired perfectly with a hauntingly beautiful voice. I have been deeply in love with this song since the first time I've heard it. The lyrics bring me back to the sleepless nights of heartbreaks gone by, falling in love with all the wrong boys. This song is the nostalgia of wounds that eventually heal and leave a bittersweet scar in its place.

We walked along a crowded street
You took my hand and danced with me in the shade
And when you left you kissed my lips
You told me you would never ever forget these images, no

Well, I'd never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?

So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do...

music monday: need you now

Monday, November 8, 2010

I have a little secret. From when I was a little girl, I was a country music junkie. I have no idea why or how it started, I just fell in love with Kenny Rogers, Martina Mcbride, John Denver and so many others from such a young age that until now country music holds a very special place in my heart. Nowadays country has become more widely accepted, and we have talents such as Lady Antebellum who seamlessly carry country music to a bigger audience and prove that there's more to it than cowboy hats and southern accents.

I love these photos of them because they show the bond between these three performers. They look like they have so much fun together and having just won 2 CMA awards, I hope they continue to shine for many years to come. This song is just so beautiful and heart-breaking.

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor
Reachin' for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one
I'm all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control
And I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now
