I recently discovered talented Australian artist, Lilly Piri and have been mesmerized by her work ever since. She uses color pencils, oils and pen and her illustrations are soft, romantic and have such a childlike innocence to them. Swedish artist/illustrator/photographer Sandra Juto uses various forms of media to express her creativity and I must say, she does so oh-so well. She blends her hand-drawings into digital form seamlessly creating illustrations that are adorable and quirkily old-fashioned, which reminds me of illustrations in children's books when I was growing up. I would be honored to decorate my walls with prints of her work.

Aside from these cute and colorful characters (say that three times fast), she also takes stunning photographs which she showcases on her blog and knits the most adorable, anatomically correct plushies and wristworms! Check out her shop or her blog to be further inspired.

artist ave: enchanting enchanted dolls

Oh my... I'm still trying to catch my breath. For anyone who's ever been a doll lover, forget every doll you've ever owned. Marina Bychkova's aptly named Enchanted Dolls are the only dolls you'll ever want after you've seen them. I don't even know where to begin... they're stunningly hand-crafted in porcelain, each with their own unique, often mysterious expressions and intricate accessories to boot. They're also incredibly realistic, from their positions to their hair and features, exuding a delicateness but also a haunting creepiness that makes them all the more mesmerizing. 

Her artwork has been featured all over in various magazines, and with each doll she tries to show us her interpretation of emotion and beauty that no other dolls have ever been able to evoke in the past. It's become a dream of mine to own one of her dolls, and though I probably never will, I definitely do not mind dreaming of such gorgeous things, isn't it? artist ave: melissa haslam's cherry fields

When I first saw australian artist Melissa Haslam's work while browsing through some online galleries, I immediately fell in love. As you might be able to tell, I'm a fan of romantic portraits of waif-like girls and Melissa blends her subjects lovingly with the nature that surrounds them. I love the softness of her lines and her usage of dark and light in each of her paintings. I would love to one day own one of her prints. You can see more of her work at her blog, Cherry Fields.

Before you do anything else, check out the fabulous website of the equally fabulous Courtney Brims, whose work has already made her way across the bloggosphere. I’ve always loved the simplicity and uniqueness of graphite pencil art and her work is just sublime. Whether it’s animals and nature or girls lost in fairytales, this Brisbane artist’s illustrations draw you into a storybook world reminiscent of the nature and childhood daydreams.

One of my all time favorite artists is the sublimely talented Audrey Kawasaki. Her work evokes so many different emotions without being afraid of contradicting each other. Her subjects are mostly waif-like girls with billowing hair and bedroom eyes that exude sexuality and innocence at the same time. Almost all her work is oil painted onto wood which intensifies the flowing, natural mood of her portraits. I hope that one day I'll be able to have one of her works in my own home.
